Brave new essay
The character that I thought fit the requirements that are; a character that conforms outwardly while still questioning inwardly is Lenina. So in the following paragraph(s) I will try to the best of my ability and knowing to explain why she fits the requirements.
In the novel the castes are raises fairly the same all of them where taught to hate books and flowers by sounding off a loud alarm when they where close to them. In there society they are taught that sleeping with different partners at a young age is normal, lenina would contribute to this as well, but then she met Henry Foster she was with him for four months and only with him, when she told fanny about that, Fanny told her that that wasn’t right and telling her that what if Henry had been with other girls at the same time of them being together. This is the first piece of evidence where lenina starts her process of conforming outwardly, by only being with Henry instead of doing what she was taught .
Later one when Lenina went to the reservation with Bernard and the others that’s when they meet John, this is before she liked John and also before she knew John liked her, but once she knew that John liked her she started to catch feelings for him. This is her conforming outwardly because she felt love for another person something most people at the institute don’t feel for one another.
One way she questioned was, what would other people think, in the the book there was no such thing as love, or being a mother and father because in the book they are told that that is a bad thing and that before Ford people would only be with one person but that isn’t right anymore, but what she was really worried about was getting married, having a kid with them and growing and with them, she didn’t want to end up like Linda looking very old and having a kid because that wasn’t right to them.
(Now I want to keep this essay short, not because I don’t know what else to write but you the reader and I the writer are busy people). Now how does this contribute to the meaning of the book? Lenina is in the suffering and search of identity category of the book. Suffering because she wants to be with John but John finds out that she has been with a numerous amount of guys. And search of identity because she wants to be with John but she is worried about what other people will think.that is how Lenina fits in to the requirements.
